The Seeed Studio XIAO nRF54L15 series module adopts a new generation of system-on-chip for monitoring sensors and achieving multi-protocol wireless connection

Iot technology company Seeed Studio has launched a new series of modules based on Nordic Semiconductor's next-generation nRF54L15 ultra-low power wireless SoC.
These modules are specifically designed to meet the demands of various Internet of Things (iot) applications, especially suitable for scenarios that have strict requirements for compact size, low power consumption, and multi-protocol wireless connectivity - such as wireless sensors, wearable devices, and smart home devices. This platform simultaneously supports "edge artificial intelligence" and rapid prototyping development, helping developers and start-ups build compact AIoT(Artificial Intelligence of Things) projects with on-board processing capabilities.
The nRF54L15 SoC supports multi-protocol connections
The "Seeed Studio XIAO nRF54L15" with dimensions of 21×17.8 mm is a compact and powerful development board. It integrates the nRF54L15 system-on-chip and supports multiple wireless protocols, including Bluetooth ® Low Energy, Thread, Zigbee and Amazon Sidewalk, making it highly versatile in iot applications. In addition to connectivity, the Nordic system-on-chip is equipped with a 128 MHz Arm® Cortex®-M33 processor, featuring a RISC-V coprocessor for running software-defined peripherals and handling real-time tasks. It also comes with 1.5 MB of non-volatile memory (NVM) and 256 KB of RAM. These resources are sufficient to run the wireless protocol stack and application code simultaneously.
Another version of the module, "Seeed Studio XIAO nRF54L15 Sense", further enhances value by integrating two on-board sensors - a digital microphone and a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) - enabling developers to directly integrate voice and motion functions without additional components. This module is compatible with Nordic nRF Connect SDK(a unified and flexible software development kit for building iot products), Zephyr real-time operating system and PlatformIO development platform, providing developers with a powerful and flexible software ecosystem and significantly accelerating the proof-of-concept development process.
Yang Bo, senior product manager of Seeed Studio and head of the Maker team, explained: "By adopting the Seeed Studio XIAO nRF54L15 series modules, smart home and consumer devices can achieve seamless connection and energy-saving automation through Matter, Thread and Bluetooth Low Energy technologies." Wearable devices and portable electronic products can take advantage of their low-power design, on-board inertial measurement units and microphones to be applied in scenarios such as fitness tracking, gesture control and voice input. Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) applications can adopt Zigbee, Thread or Sidewalk protocols to achieve asset tracking, sensor networks and predictive maintenance solutions.
The XIAO nRF54L15 module is specifically designed for low power consumption and is an ideal choice for battery-powered devices. It offers 14 universal input/output ports, a USB Type-C interface and an on-board battery charging function. These features collectively simplify the hardware design and development process. Its low power consumption feature is partly attributed to the ultra-low power architecture of the nRF54L15 system-on-chip, which integrates Nordic's proprietary technologies - including a low leakage current RAM design and advanced design expertise applied to the fourth-generation ultra-low power multi-protocol 2.4GHz RF module.
Yang Bo said, "Previously, we have developed the XIAO nRF52840 based on the Nordic nRF52840 SoC, and the nRF54L15 SoC is precisely the product of its natural evolution." It not only features a faster processor, larger storage capacity and better power consumption efficiency, but also supports more advanced wireless protocols. These enhanced features make it an inevitable choice for our XIAO nRF54L15 series, providing users with a significant upgrade path.
nRF Connect SDK Achieve seamless development
Yang Bo added, "The nRF Connect SDK equipped with the Zephyr real-time operating system is also a key factor in our decision-making." It provides developers with a stable and mature framework that supports multiple wireless protocol stacks and can be seamlessly integrated with mainstream development tools such as PlatformIO. .
Furthermore, Nordic's technical documentation is comprehensive and well-structured, which enables us to avoid development pitfalls when creating our own documentation and support resources. Meanwhile, the mature developer ecosystem surrounding Nordic products enables our engineering team to master the relevant technologies quickly and efficiently.
