Global renowned semiconductor manufacturer ROHM (headquartered in Kyoto, Japan) announced today the launch of two general-purpose motor driver ics, "BD60210FV" (20V withstand voltage, 2 channels) and "BD64950EFJ" (40V withstand voltage, 1 channel), which are widely applicable to DC brushed motors. The new product is applicable to the fields of consumer electronics including white goods such as refrigerators and air conditioners, as well as industrial equipment.

In recent years, from consumer electronics such as white goods to industrial equipment, the electrification process of control mechanisms has accelerated, and the demand for more energy-efficient DC brushed motors has been increasing day by day. On the other hand, it is required that the motor driver achieve standardized design, reduce the number of external components, have high reliability and be compact in size. How to balance cost and design efficiency has become an important market demand. In response to these demands, ROHM has launched two products, "BD60210FV" and "BD64950EFJ", which balance versatility, space-saving efficiency and design convenience, to help enhance the design efficiency and performance of application products.
Both products adopt a versatile packaging form, which not only makes it easy to incorporate into new designs but also significantly enhances the efficiency of circuit modification, derivative model development, and design standardization. In addition, the new product also achieves A low standby current (Typ: 0.0μA, Max: 1.0μA), which can significantly enhance the energy-saving performance of application products during standby.
"BD60210FV" is a dual-channel (2ch) H-bridge *1 direct PWM control *2 type motor driver capable of driving two DC brushed motors or one stepper motor. By adopting an H-bridge circuit structure that does not require a boost, the number of external components is reduced to a greater extent, which helps to further save space and simplify the design.
The "BD64950EFJ" adopts a single-channel (1ch) H-bridge circuit and supports both direct PWM control and constant current PWM control *3. In addition, the adoption of a low on-resistance design can effectively suppress heat generation and achieve high-efficiency motor drive. This product has a withstand voltage of 40V and is suitable for brushed DC motors that require high voltage (24V) drive.
The new products have started mass production (sample price: 300 Japanese yen per piece, excluding tax) and are now available for purchase through e-commerce platforms (BD60210FV, BD64950EFJ). In addition, ROHM also offers evaluation boards (BD60210FV-EVK-001, BD64950EFJ-EVK-001) that can assist in the development and design of application products.
In the future, ROHM will continue to expand its motor drive solutions in the fields of consumer electronics and industrial equipment, contributing to the improvement of social comfort and energy conservation.

<Application example>
・Consumer electronic devices
Refrigerator (ice maker rotation and damper control), air conditioner (louver control), printer (guide rail movement
Sweeping robot (brush head rotation), water heater and rice cooker (valve control), humidifier (drive fan control)
・Industrial equipment
Automatic doors and roller shutters (motion control), small conveyor belts (transmission control), power tools (rotation control)
Control of various other small motors

<Term explanation>
*1) Hshape
An electronic circuit used to control the rotation direction of an electric motor. When drawing a circuit diagram, it is called an "H-bridge" because four switches (transistors or MOSFETs) are arranged in an H shape.
*2) Direct PWM control
The method of directly transmitting PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signals to circuits such as H-bridges to directly control the motor speed. The voltage supplied to the motor is regulated through the PWM duty cycle. The circuit structure is relatively simple and the response speed is fast.
*3) Constant current PWM control
The PWM control mode is adopted to keep the motor current constant. This control method enables the motor to maintain torque at low speeds and is suitable for applications that require precise control, such as equipment.
