Shanghai, China, November 14, 2025 - AMS Osram (SIX: AMS), a global leader in lighting and sensing innovation, today announced the launch of a new five-junction edge-emitting laser, leading the performance of lidar systems to a new level. The realization of autonomous driving cannot do without sensor technology that can provide precise, reliable and long-range detection at all times. Compared with the previous three-junction technology, the peak power of the new laser launched by AMS Osram this time has significantly increased, while the power consumption is lower. The traditional three-junction laser has increased the detection distance by 50% compared to conventional emitters, while the five-junction laser has made a further breakthrough: with five vertically stacked emission layers integrated in a single-chip structure, it not only significantly expands the detection range but also significantly optimizes energy efficiency performance.
